Coop, "Cowboy", and the Carrot

This is Cowboy:

Cowboy is a very friendly donkey that one of my dad's college buddies gave him. Just because. People do that when you live out in the country. They bring you things, even living things, that belong out in the country. Shortly after acquiring Cowboy, another man brought Dad a "jenny" (female donkey, for you city folk), which Dad actually wanted. But, the guy also brought him another "jack" (male donkey), which he is now trying to find another home for. (Cowboy doesn't want to share.) Anyway...They are fun to look at, especially for Cooper, who had only seen pictures of donkeys and wondered about the funny "hee-haw"-ing sounds that we would make as we pointed to the pictures. Now he understands, and will make his own version of donkey sounds when he sees a picture or if we happen to be speaking of donkeys. (You'd be surprised at how often...) As I mentioned, Cowboy is very friendly. The other 2 are pretty skittish. Cowboy comes right up to you, as you can see in the picture, and expects to be fed a treat every day. So, while at Gran & Pop's on Memorial Day, Coop and I got to feed Cowboy a carrot.

On the first attempt, Coop got a little hesitant. Cowboy got a big bite, and tried to pull the whole carrot away, but I managed to hold on. Then he got frustrated and walked away.

So, we tried to get "jenny" to come. (I don't know why, but she doesn't have a name yet. Cowboy was already named when they got him.) She wanted to, but got scared and left.

Then Coop summoned his courage, and the donkey, and was ready to try again.
Aahh! Sweet success! Both for Cooper, and for Cowboy.
