This past weekend, we spent the night out on the ranch in Simonton. My niece, Katie, had been there a couple of days already while her mom and dad were in Galveston.
She was very excited to get to spend some time with Auntie Jenna & Uncle Chris, and especially Cooper! During their last visit, I had given Katie several books to read. Among them was Dr. Suess's Bartholomew and the Oobleck. I had also promised that we would actually make "oobleck" the next time she came. Katie forgot all about reading the book (Pop had read it to her once), but immediately remembered the promise. :) So we set about the task of making ooey, gooey, sticky, slimy "oobleck". (Read the story; mix cornstarch & water and throw in some green food coloring. It washes out.) Here's a picture of our creation. Katie had a great time drizzling it all over her and me.
Katie and Uncle Chris always find time to goof around, too. This time she decided he needed to explore a new hairstyle.
She and Cooper had a few laughs, too.
Katie is also a horse lover. Her horse, Champion, stays at the ranch with Gran & Pop. Although she doesn't get to ride regularly, her riding skills are growing by leaps and bounds. This time she rode and reigned all by herself--just some off-camera coaching by Pop. AND, s
he even trotted by herself! Way to go, Katie! Someday you'll be teaching Cooper to ride!
